ACEI cough - dry, intractable, and often worse at night Acute Bronchitis - inflammation of bronchial smooth muscles. Wide range of microorganisms Acute Bronchitis Signs and Symptoms - Cough (most common) May be productive fever, malaise, chest discomfort, chills, headache may be wheezing or rhonchi Equal fremitus no egophony Acute Cough - (less than 3 weeks) Alpha-1 antitrypsin - All patients with COPD or asthma with chronic obstructive changes should have serum alpha-1 level ASA or NSAID cough - RARE; tight dry with wheezing Asthma - inflammation of the airways with varying degrees of airway obstruction andhyper-responsiveness Asthma diagnostic studies - PFT, spirometry Peak flow not used for diagnosis, but to monitoring ongoing symptoms. Asthma Signs and symptoms - intermittent chest tightness, cough, shortness of breath, wheezing Cough usually nonproductive, deep respiratory effort may prompt cough, often association with allergic rhinitis or atopic dermatitis Bronchiectasis - dilation of one or more bronchi. Bronchiectasis Diagnostic studies - Chest xray-linear markings, atelectasis, pulmonary cysts.
