P3) Describe how two businesses are organised
Mercedes
The type of organisation structure:
Mercedes has a tall structure because it is a big organisation with layers of
hierarchies, which is grouped into ranks and the level of importances, so the owner
would be the top, where as the finance team will be at the bottom. Mercedes is
known to have a matrix structure where it consists of both functional and divisional
structure, this means that people work together on a big project in different teams
who are specialised with certain roles that they have to complete. This is very
common for multinational companies that operate worldwide.
The chain of command:
Mercedes Benz is a multinational sector of the German manufacturer, Daimler AG.
The brand is known for it’s production of luxury automobile and other motor vehicles
like trucks and coaches. The Diamler AG are the manufacturers this is for German
cars, but the present CEO and is the head of Mercedes's is Dieter Zetsche and he is
placed at the top of the hierarchy chart.
The span of control:
Mercedes is a massive successful company that has to make sure that the
employees are always working at their best of their abilities especially if they are
working with customers. For this reason Mercedes has a narrow span of control.
This is when their communication is perfect, so they will also have inspectors who
would supervise the employees to ensure there are no errors.

A functional area is a grouping of individuals that are placed on different that they are
specialised in, each team has to contribute for the organisation. The most common
functional groups are accounting, marketing and advertising. The Mercedes’s
functional areas that I am going to talk about are the Marketing department, Finance
department, Sales department and Human Resource department.
The marketing department plays a huge role for Mercedes as they have the
responsibility to promote and advertise the customers their new cars. The more
money and time that is put onto the advertisements then the outcome would lead to
there being an increase of interest from the customers. It would also mean that
