Purpose: to analyzed an opinion on a given issue. (The expression of attitudes about gov and politics. political poll a way to gage public opinion. public policy The principles , often unwritten on which social laws are based; a system of laws regulatory measures,courses of action... promulgated by a gov entity or representatives. The Greek definition of Democracy self government by the many; ruled by the common people exercised directly in open assemblies. Face to face decision making. Keynesian economics ( John Mayord Keynes) in order for economy to survive and thrive it must rely on consumers spending money. When we stop spending money we could go into depression. In order to prevent recession the government should: 1. cut taxes government increase gov spending- increasing for short amount of time Supply-side economics Two things government should do to avoid depression 1. cut taxes (corporations included)- to inverse their money 2. Decrease government spending- you cut social programs. Ex) education, welfare ,Cut funding for mental health services, cut for Alzheimer research. Argues that economic growth can be most effectively created by investing in capital, and by lowering barriers on the production of good and services. Social security Act and its amendments An act to provide for the general welfare by establishing a system of Federal old- age benefits and by allowing the several states to make more adequate provisions for aged persons, handicapped etc. Amendments: widow benefits, medical medicare, and other social services. Is the American bureaucracy involved with politics or policy? The American bureaucracy is involved/ implements both policy and politics; politics control how policy is controlled.
