NURS 190 Physical Assessment Final Test Prep Osteomyelitis • Infection in a bone • S/S: swelling, warmth, and redness over infected area, stiffness • Fever, chills, lethargic, pain in infected area, irritable • Can sometimes be Asymptomatic Goniometer • Measures the joints range of motion (2 rulers held by a circle) Osteoporosis • Loss of bone density, bones become brittle and fragile, • Take VIT D for calcium absorption, drink a lot of fluid 2-3L ROM assessment 1. Flexion – contract 2. Extension – Retract. 3. Abduction – pull away. 4. Adduction – Add toward the body. Rheumatoid Arthritis • Morning joint stiffness up to one hour, relieved with movement • Pain, fatigue Crepitation in Chest Crackling or rattling sounds -Made when a person is breathing with an inflamed lung Crepitation in TMJ (TMJ Dysfunction) — TMJ dysfunction should be suspected if facial pain and limited jaw movement accompany clinching sounds as the jaw opens and closes. Other findings include swelling crepitus or pain in the TM joint. — Palpate with index and middle finger, on the tragus, pt opens mouth clench teeth , no clicking Stroke s/s • Smile = half face • Slurred speech, drooling, incomplete sentences • normally cant raise hands • NSG consideration: Keep NPO to avoid aspiration 1Dehydration s/s • Tenting is normal in older adults • Tenting in children/young adults is an indicator of hydration, if skin is released and remains pulled then that infers dehydration • Skin turgor 2 Parts of Nervous system • CNS: brain+SC • PNS: Cranial & Spinal nerves (12 pairs of nerves)
