Summary Applied Science - The Musculoskeletal System

Learning Aim A – understand the impact from disorders of the
musculoskeletal system and the associated corrective treatments.
P1 – Explain the functional role of the musculoskeletal system in the human body.

P2 – Describe the effect of disorder of muscles and joints and possible corrective
treatments.
M1 – Compare how disorders of the musculoskeletal system can affect how muscles bring
about movement of joints and the importance of corrective treatment.
D1 - Evaluate the effects of corrective treatments associated with a musculoskeletal
disorder.



The Musculoskeletal System:

The musculoskeletal system is made up of bones, muscles, cartilage, tendons, ligaments and
joints, as well as other connective tissues which support and join tissues and organs
together. The skeleton forms a framework in our body, supporting it and allowing it to
move, as well as providing protection for internal organs.
