Skills that would be needed for my career choice
Skill: Good communication
Achieved/not achieved (if achieved then examples must be demonstrated): I have achieved the skill of
having good communication. An example of this could be how I can talk to a range of people confidently
and are able to communicate effectively changing to meet different people’s needs.
Identification of ways of achieving skills needed for career plan: One way that I have achieved this skill
is by the job that I am working in which is a sales assistant. In this job I communicate with a range of
different people every day and am able to change my ways of communication to suit their needs and
make sure that they have the best shopping experience. I have also been attending training sessions at
work to ensure that my communication is improving and so I can further the skill.
The strengths and weaknesses of using this method to achieve skill (say how method will help develop
skill and any alternative methods that could be better): The method that I have used to learn this skill I
think is effective as it puts me in a position where it is vital to have important communication skills as
they are needed to be able to speak to the customers and other members of staff. There is a weakness
to this method though as I am communicating with people about a certain subject such as the products
that we sell therefore I am not dealing with a wide range of situations.
However I could further my communication skills by using methods such as presenting, by presenting
work at college it would mean that I would have more clear communication as I would have to speak to
a range of people and make sure that everybody heard correctly and understood.
Evaluation of progress made in achieving transferable skill: I believe that I have good communication
skills and they have progressed a lot due to the work that I am in. I would say that I am 70% towards
meeting this skill as I have been able to communicate with a range of people within my education and in
my work. However I still can develop my communication skills by communicating with people outside of
these premises.
Skill:Creativity and an eye for detail
Achieved/not achieved (if achieved then examples must be demonstrated):I don’t believe that I have
achieved this skill completely and I think I still need to work towards learning this skill.
Identification of ways of achieving skills needed for career plan: I have partly achieved this skill by
taking art at GCSE level which helped to develop my creativity and my skills when it came to detail and
designing.
The strengths and weaknesses of using this method to achieve skill (say how method will help develop
skill and any alternative methods that could be better): The method that I used had benefits as taking
art meant that it extended my knowledge of expressing creativity and furthered my eye for detail when
designing. There is drawbacks to the method that I have used as the work that I created was specific and
did not explore into interior design therefore I am only specialised in the fine art that I chosen. I would
say that I am 40% towards having the skill of creativity that I would need in an interior design course as I
