Aperçu du contenu

I strongly believe in life.

Nurses play a vital role, whether it be at birth or in our final hour. It is a privilege that each
one of us is cared for and valued by a suitable professional. I have a keen interest in Adult
Nursing as it promotes the value and dignity of human life through dedicated care, and also
helps us acknowledge that we often take things for granted, especially when it comes to our
health. Therefore, pursuing this career will enable someone to get through a certain health
condition that they face in day-to-day life. Having both parents in the medical profession
nurtured my passion towards this vocation. Seeing their courage and dedication during the
pandemic doing their work for the betterment of society really inspired me to strive and be
like them.

Currently I am studying Health and Social care ,Sociology and Applied Science. I chose
Health and Social care as it discusses finding the best tailored care provision for patients .
Whilst watching a documentary about nurses ; the high demand in employing more nurses
really touched me as their role impacts peoples lives drastically.Secondly I chose Sociology
gives an understanding of how society works, sociology has taught me social responsibility
and to become an agent of change making me committed to be aware of the changes
throughout a nurse's journey such as changes in edited policies. Lastly I chose Applied
Science as it helps me to learn the health aspects such as how the different functions in our
body all work together for a healthy body and mind deepening my understanding. Having
two BTEC based subjects has allowed me to improve organisation and self-management,
important qualities in the nursing field.

Volunteering as a teaching assistant in a primary school enabled me to become more
compassionate and understanding of people's emotional needs and consequently providing
appropriate care. Having responsibility gave me an insight of working under pressure and
communicating with people who have a different perspective on things, improving my
leadership qualities. I gained skills such as giving the right food to each individual according
to their dietary restrictions and providing the right care. Moreover whilst volunteering in a
care home, I noticed how vulnerable the older generation were and that it is up to the new
generation to look after them. During my time there I gained many practical skills which
enhanced my courage to strive for advancement in the care which was being provided within
the later adulthood community. Both work experiences gave me an insight that becoming an
Adult nurse was the resonated path for me.

In my free time I enjoy reading. My favourite autobiography is " Becoming Michelle Obama ''
It took me through her journey and showed me life has many chances that one must take. I
also invest my time reading the bible as it teaches us to love one another as God loves us;
and I will be able to accomplish this through nursing by being able to love the patients by
providing care. I believe I have an impeccable approach when communicating with people
as I understand people with a different perspective and being respectful whilst doing so, this
is an essential part of nursing. There may be situations where opinions may clash and it is
important that one engages positively and maturely with all points-of-view, cultural, social or
spiritual. Super curriculas i engage in are listening to podcasts , "Nurse Blake" being my
favourite as he discusses intriguing topics within the nursing sector that he experiences. In
addition, having a nursing dictionary which contains key words that a nurse may come
across has allowed me to become more familiar with the sector that I want to work in.

To conclude I believe that all the qualities I have listed above are what will make a dedicated
Adult nurse, I hopefully look forward to being able to have the opportunity to develop these
skills further.
