Introduction

In this assignment, I am going to plan an appropriate induction programme and associated documents
for a group of new starters in Vodafone using my own research.

An induction is the process where employees are brought in to get used to their new working
environment and job. During this process, employees will be integrated effectively into the business for
the benefit of both the business and the employee undergoing the induction. Induction training will
both introduce and welcome new employees to the business and is a good way for them to learn more
about the organization and the jobs that they will be doing and how to do them; the induction prepares
them for work for the business in the future. This benefits the business because they will be eventually
receiving a worker who has knowledge and skills needed to work in the business – benefiting them in
the long run as they would be able to generate more revenue the more work that gets done and work
would get done at a higher rate if the employees are more skilled and have more knowledge on the
business’ aims and objectives. The purpose of induction training for the business is that it allows them to
get across to the new employee and they would inform them on the aims and objectives, mission and
vision of the business in hopes that they will stay there and work effectively.

Induction training for employees will include introduction to key personnel (colleagues, main business
contacts, manager etc.) which will allow the employee to know more about who to go to for any
questions, who they work for and who they will be working with. The next part of the induction will
include housekeeping; employees will be introduced to their work area e.g., their desk, storage or
locker, car parking, toilets, staff room and canteen – they will often be given a tour, so they know their
way around the business when they come to work there. Furthermore, day to day routines would be the
next part of induction training which will include their start and finish times, breaks, meetings, bulletins,
notice boards and the dress code. In doing this, the employee will be more prepared when they come to
work as they will be able to minimize questions asked – it is beneficial if they ask all the questions
needed during the induction training.

Induction training for the business will include IT, health and safety and the paperwork. The business will
give the employee their username and password, email address and access to the internet so they know
how to log in to any staff websites or computers and where they can receive any work emails. The
health and safety aspect of the induction training would include them being trained on how to use
equipment, fire and other emergency procedures and details on first aid which includes the accident
book - an essential document for employers and employees who are required by law to report details of

, specified work-related injuries and incidents. The paperwork for the business regarding induction
training will include legal documents such as contracts of employment for the employee, bank details,
emergency contacts, policies and procedures. This is all needed to ensure that the employee is legally
prepared to be employed for the business.

There are four main stages of induction that will take the employee from being introduced to the
business to working there and they include:

 Pre-employment
 First day
 First week
 First month and beyond

Induction programme
Pre-employment:

The first stage of induction is pre-employment which is what happens prior to the employee starting
employment. This should include information on the business that the employee would need to know
before they start their first day of working. The main thing that will come with the pre-employment
induction is an official job offer letter and contract which is done to legally employee the person
undergoing induction.

First day:
First day timetable:

Time: First Day Timetable
9-10am Welcome discussion and Introduction to Manager, colleagues.
10- Introduction to the aims, objectives, vision and mission of the
11am business
11- Retail advisor job role and information on work
12pm
12-1pm Lunch break
1-3pm ‘Spirit of Vodafone’
3-4pm Meet the team/ premises tour
4-5pm IT administration, security and human resources
In the first day of the induction training, I have created a timetable which the retail advisor employee
would follow when first coming to the business. At 9-10am, the employee would be introduced to the
business’ team which would include the management and their colleagues. They will be part of a
discussion which would help them to know more about those in the business and who to report to, who
they will be working with etc. The next part of the first day timetable would be from 10-11 am and
would be a follow up to the previous welcome discussion; there would be an introduction on the aims,
objectives, vision and mission of the business. It is important that this is part of the first day of induction
as it would show the employee how Vodafone conduct business and what they are trying to achieve,
giving them more of a reason to work hard in their new job position. Furthermore, at 11-12pm , they
would move onto specific information on the retail advisor job role and information on the work they
would be doing in the future; this would include discussions with those who already work in this area of
Vodafone to allow them to know how to effectively do their job. After a lunch break from 12-1pm, they
