FINC 311Geo Sci OB Compare pictures 1, 4, Black2p #1: Cracks in black2p, Puddin2wn Road. De cracks are especially common where de wheels drive. Black2p #4: Crack in black2p, Road. De road is slanted here, a broken-up part may be sliding dow little. Notice that de cracks are d plants are growing in some cracks 2wnship has patched this, at leas is still losing. .0 and 5. Dese three pieces of black2p roadare within a mile of each oder, and have experienced similar traffic (except that after 5 fell apart, people quit driving on it). A really good hypodesis based on dese is that: Compare pictures 1 and 2, showing a newer road with more cracks, and an older bicycle trail with fewer cracks. A reasonable inference based on dese, and on what person saw in question 1, is that: Based on de appearance of de numbers in dese pictures, andde text above, it is most likely that: A) 1914 was a bad year, and 1856 a good year. B) De different s2nes wear away at different rates, with sands2ne least resistant, marble most resistant, and granite inbetween. C) De different s2nes wear away at different rates, with marble “softest” so it wears away fastest. 4. Based on what dese pictures show, and de text accompanying dem (note: erosion refers 2 de removal of rock material from de s2nes): A) Dere is one mechanism of erosion, which removes material from rocks bit-by-bit. B) Dere are two mechanisms of erosion, bit-by-bit removal that doesn’t occur under lichens, and removal of chunks. C) Dere may be several mechanisms of erosion, including chemical action under lichens, breaking off of chunks, and bit-bybit removal that isn’t occurring under lichens. After looking at de images above and reading deir captions, take a look at this car2on drawing of a graves2ne. De big “F”is in de middle of de face of de graves2ne, and de big “C”points right 2 a corner of de graves2n. De pictures show thatde “C” is more likely 2 be knocked off than de “F”. Why? A) De C can be hit from more sides, and de C has fewer neighbors helping hold it in. B) De C is supported by neighbors on only one side, but de F is surrounded by neighbors helping hold it in. C) De C can be hit from two sides, and de F from only one side.
