Make sure your program/workspace is set in “Essentials”
Some explaining:
Menu bar: edit, image, layer, type, select, filter, view etc.
Tool bar: move tool, rectangular marquee tool, object selection tool, crop tool, eye dropper
tool, spot healing brush, brush tool, clone stamp tool, history brush tool, eraser tool …
Some tools have a small triangle under them; means there are other tools under the
presented tool.; Gradient tool, paint bucket tool …
3 dots: edit tool bar
Foreground color, background color
Foreground: Used to fill items
Background: Used as a second color
Options bar (is under the menu bar): it shows you all the options you have for the selected
tool
The panels:
Color:
- Properties
o Layers
▪ Used to work in a non-destructive way
- Adjustments
- Libraries
Swatches: they are specific colors, predefined
Gradients
Patterns
3 important keys
- Control A / Command A ➔ select everything
- Alt / Option
- If all menus, panels, bars disappear → tab key
Zooming
To zoom: you need the zoom tool: magnifying glass + alt/option key to zoom out
Fit the picture on screen: view - fit on screen OR use the hand tool – double click
Double clicks zoom tool = zooming to 100%
Scroll wheel of your mouse (down and up)
Moving the picture
Take the hand tool and click and move
Tool & space bar and keep pressing = becomes a hand to move around

File; Save as:
- Photoshop (all your layers/ your file)
- JPEG (one layer)

Deselect: command D
Exercise 1
Open files; Bruges and find in Bruges
Having both pictures on screen at the same time
Window: Arrange; 2-up Vertical
Zooming on picture via Zoom tool and encircle them with the brush tool (select foreground
color and adjust brush size)
Exercise 2
Create a new file: create new: A4 white
Drawing a rectangle: rectangular marquee tool: drag (it makes a selection)
Give it a color (foreground color); paint bucket tool; click in selection
Filling with a gradient: gradient tool: option panel: iridescent: make a line (drag a line)
Adding another rectangle on a different layer: +-sign creates a new layer
The layers can be used to make the stacking order.
Eraser tool: erases on selected layer.
Exercise 3
Open files; PS old picture 1_2_3
Make sure you duplicate the OG layer!
Spot healing brush tool: small clicks/ small brush or drag (restores the imperfections)
Exercise 4
Open files: PS cloning & cloning
Make sure you duplicate the OG layer!
Clone stamp tool: USE option (= starting point); keep on the same line and click and drag to
clone.
You can adjust with spot healing brush.
Non-printing guides: you can drag them away
