Van belang zijn vooral de antistoffen die gemaakt worden door B-cellen, deze worden gestimuleerd en geholpen door CD4+ T-cellen die cytokines uitscheiden. Uiteindelijk ontwikkelen B-cellen zich dus tot antistof producerende plasmacellen. Voor de antistoffen is belangrijk of ze cytotoxisch zijn, dus zijn het complement activerende antistoffen en maken ze dat het complement systeem gaat reageren tegen het orgaan, wanneer dat zo is vindt afstoting plaats.
