Autonomy - answer-The ability to function independently without the control of others.

Cesarean birth - answer-Surgical birth of the fetus through an incision in the abdominal
wall and uterus.
Chelation - answer-Binding of a metallic ion with a structure so that the ion is
inactivated.
Doula - answer-A trained support person employed to provide labor or postpartum
support.
Ethical dilemma - answer-A situation in which no solution seems completely
satisfactory.
Ethnicity - answer-Condition of belonging to a particular ethnic group; also refers to
ethnic pride.
Evidence-based practice - answer-Providing care based on evidence gained through
research and clinical trials.
Failure to rescue - answer-Evaluating the quality and quantity of nursing care by
comparing the number of patients who develop common complications and survive
versus those who do not.
Health literacy - answer-Includes a spectrum of abilities ranging from reading an
appointment slip to interpreting medication instructions.
Healthy People 2020 - answer-A government-sponsored statement of national health
objectives in 42 topic areas designed to identify and reduce the most significant
preventable health threats within the United States. The overall goals of the program
are to increase the quality and length of life and to eliminate health disparities.
Informed consent - answer-A requirement, both legal and ethical, that the child and the
parent or guardian completely understand proposed procedures or treatments, including
their benefits and risks.
Integrative health care - answer-Health care that encompasses complementary and
alternative therapies in combination with conventional Western modalities of treatment.
