-It attacks cancer cells along with healthy cells
7. What does benign mean
Harmless: does not usually require intervention
8. What is the radiation dose
Ideal Radiation Dose- kills cancer cells with an acceptable level of damage to normal
tissues
-High Energy Radiation: kills cells, relieves symptoms, and provides disease control
9. Hypervolemia
Excessive Fluid
Some symptoms include:
-weight gain (daily weight)
-Tachycardia
-Crackles in the lungs
-Edema
-Jugular vein distention
10. Prevention of extravasation when administering chemotherapy
Extravasation (infiltration) - if medications are vesicants, the results of extravasation can
include: pain, infection, and tissue loss. Vesicants are chemicals that damage tissues on
direct contact
-First check for blood backflow before injection to ensure it’s positioned in the vein
-Make sure it is diluted and know the antidote
