Onah. It features Kelvin Harrison Jr, Naomi Watts, Tim Roth, and Spenser. It is based on a play
by the name J.C. Lee and involves a couple forced to rethink their relationship due to a disturbing
essay written by Luce, their adopted son, which is brought to their attention by, Spenser, Luce's
teacher (Yamato). The movie, Luce, sheds light on stereotypes, social expectations, and race
prevalent in America today.
The movie is about the main star Luce Edgar, born in Eritrea, a war-torn country and
adopted in the United States ("Luce (2019) - Imdb"). He later becomes a star in athletics and an
accomplished public speaker, adored by his parents and other students. However, He has a negative
attitude towards his history teacher since she had his friend kicked out of school for possession of
weed.
She is also alarmed by the essay Luce had written, forcing her to search his locker where
she finds fireworks. She reports this to Luce's parents, who become unsettled and hide them from
Luce. Upon confrontation, Luce claims that the teacher had a habit of singling out students in the
class to make a point. But Harriet views Luce as her star student, but Luce Does not want the

Luce later finds the fireworks and the assignment and talks to Harriet about the essay. He
tells her that he does not believe in what he wrote in the essay, and he just wanted to do a good
job. However, his teacher takes their interaction as a threat after he comments something about
fireworks. His parents confront him, which he explains that the fireworks were not his since they
shared lockers.
Luce and his friend DeShaun and his girlfriend Stephanie decide to get back at Harriet.
Stephanie claims to be sexually assaulted by Luce, which makes Harriet inform the principal and
call his parents for a meeting. During the meeting, she brings up the fireworks that she had found
in Luce's locker and gave them to his mom. However, parents deny the fact to protect their son.
Harriet also had her home vandalized. She accuses Luce of the incident and asks about his
whereabouts during the time, which he provides video evidence to show that he was with friends.
She also tries to bring in Stephanie, who had told her that Luce had sexually assaulted her but to
her surprise, she was gone. Harriet tries to convince Townson of her side, but he ends the meeting.
Later during the night, Fireworks explode inside Harriet's desk, causing a fire. She is put
on leave by Townson since she is the primary suspect of the incident. Amy, Luce's mum, hears
about the incident and looks for the fireworks only to find them gone. Peter, Luce's dad, believes
that luce is involved, but Amy tells him that they will stand with their son no matter what happens.
Later Luce shows up at Harriet's house with flowers since he felt uncomfortable with her
job loss. He confronts her about DeShaun's loss of his athletic career and her pedestalization of
Luce. She defends herself by claiming that America stereotyped them and not her and that she was
just trying to help (Onah). She also accuses Luce of his hypocrisy since he used his black friends
to do all the dirty work, to which he argues that it was not the same thing.
