describe and compare the topics of four articles · Marisa J. Fuentes, “Power and Historical Figuring: Rachael Pringle Polgreen’s Troubled Archive” · Pablo Piccato, “Written in Black and Red: Murder as a Communicative Act in Mexico” ·
History History plays a crucial role in today's society. It helps people understand different dynamics, meanings, and the relationship between cause and effect and how they affect the development of modern societies. As such, this essay discusses and compares Fuente's, Piccato's, Sigal's, and Forrest and Haour's articles to gain a deeper understanding of historical experiences and how they relate to each other. Fuente's (2010) article falls under several categories: histories of gender and sexuality, social history, and history of race and ethnicity. In this article, she talks about Rachael Pringle Polgreen, a colored woman who was a freed slave. Polgreen was famous in Barbados in the 1770s and 80s due to the contemporary role she played in sexual entertainment since she operated a brothel. 1 She entertained several famous officers, some of which included England's prince, William. Fuente pieces together evidence from her estate inventory and will, among other sources, to show how Polgreen represents problems faced by women of color who lived in slave societies
