Where in the environment are these endocrine-disrupting chemicals found, and what is the evidence for their effects on the male and female reproductive systems?
Effects of Endocrine-Disrupting Chemicals on Human Reproduction Human reproductive hormones play a critical role in human fertility and species propagation. These hormones are produced and stored by the endocrine system which regulates the body’s healthy function and development. However, the system is sensitive to endocrine- disrupting chemicals (EDCs) found in the environment (Hadibarata et al., 2020). Some EDCs, especially PFAS and phthalates inhibit male and female hormone production, storage, or lower their levels in the body causing adverse sexual problems like sex organs abnormality, and fertility problems among others.
