Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to document research conducted at The Hague University Of
Applied Sciences on the topic of feminism. The central question of this research is: ‘What
legacy Aletta Jacobs and Simone de Beavoir left to modern feminism?’ In order to answer
this question, different research methods were chosen: desk/secondary research and
quantitative research, so all the data is retrieved from academic, institutional and journalistic
sources and is secondary. The research showed what the legacies of Aletta Jacobs and
Simone de Beauvoir are by studying their pasts, how modern feminism differs from
first-wave feminism and that there is evidence of the legacies of Aletta and Simone in
modern feminism and what kind of evidence this is. This led to the conclusion that the
legacies of Aletta and Simone still have a lot of influence in the present day.
Introduction
According to Jessica Milsom (2021, paragraph: The definition of feminism) the definition of
feminism is: ‘The advocacy of women’s rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes.’
During the lives of Aletta and Simone, women had a disadvantaged position in society than
men.
As reported by Jenna Simons (2016, paragraph: 2, 9, 10). Some of the problems that
women experience nowadays are that men are still seen as stronger than women, that
