What electrolyte imbalance or conditions would you observe in a patient who has had a colostomy? - Potassium and sodium levels need to be monitored. Increase in vomiting or diarrhea would cause imbalances. 4. What does a normal stoma look like? - A normal stoma should appear red or pink in color. The stoma should be moist and shiny and the skin around the stoma should be normal in appearance. 5. What are the parts of a colostomy appliance? -Consist of faceplate and the ostomy bag. The “one-piece ostomy appliance” has the faceplate and ostomy bag integrated. The “two-piece ostomy appliance” comes with the faceplate and ostomy bag separated.
