SLIDE 1 ancedote/statistic Imagine it happening to you that you
are sentenced to death by a jury trial,
that you are sentenced to death by no
experts and that you are innocent and
still getting a death sentence from a
jury who are no experts.
This is only an example of what the
jury can do to people, but that is not
the problem in the Netherlands.
SLIDE 2 Introduce I am ….. and I know that an
yourself introduction of a jury system is not the
right solution for the Netherlands. So,
I am going to talk about the pros and
cons of a jury trial and let you decide
which side to choose, or not.
SLIDE 3 Outline But first, what does a jury system
mean? A jury system implies that
instead of the judge a group of normal
people determine whether you are
“guilty” or “not guilty” in criminal
cases and “liable” or “not liable” in
civil cases. This group of people are
called ‘the jury’.
SLIDE 4 Background A jury system has been around for a
information long time and in several countries.
I found out that Henry II developed
the jury system in the 12th century,
but I also found out that it seems to be
clear where the jury system originally
came from.
So, we can confirm that a lot of
countries use the jury system for their
trail. But we cannot confirm where the
jury trial originated or who came up
with the jury system.
