awake and alert but feels anxious with palpitations and SOB.

Rhythm: SVT – Supraventricular Tachycardia
Drug: Adenosine
Pharmacy Delivers: Adenosine 6 mg/2 mL vial
Physician Order: Give Adenosine 6mg IVP now. May give 12 mg IVP if first dose
ineffective.
Nurse:
1. Calculate the mLs to administer. 2

a. Is there a special way this drug is delivered? due to its very short half-life
(less than 10 seconds). Rapid IV Push
b. Does this patient need to be on a defibrillator? No, QRS still there
c. What is the most important potential side effect that may be expected of
this drug? transient asystole or arrhythmias

Physician Order: Give 0.5mg Atropine IVP now.
