EVAN525: Contemporary Evangelism =
, Prelude
The young person that I connected with for this report involves a teenager that I had seen at
the School Aged Teen Center, SCAT-C in my community. It is a Center where Teens can go to
hangout rather than hanging around in the streets. I volunteer at the center from time to time.
Once again, I know that I added an additional section to this report but I only scratched the
surface of how the Gospel totally changed this young lady’s life.
Part ONE: The Circumstances
About six or seven months ago, I noticed this young lady that was at the center every time I
volunteered. When the other teens were involved with many of the games or study halls that we
host, this young lady would just sit at a table in the back of the center alone. Much of the time,
she would just be staring out the window. I asked one of the attendants, “What’s her story?” As
expected, the attendant responded that she was from a broken home and one day she just showed
up at the center. Everyday, she would have the same routine, she would get one of the free fruit
smoothies that we offer, go to the same table and sit until closing. No one ever saw her talking to
anyone but they commented that she was very respectful and never bothered anyone. After a
couple of months, I approached her table and asked if I could sit. She just nodded and continued
to stare out the window. I asked if she wanted to talk which she responded, “no body wants to
talk to me because I am different.” I asked what she meant by that and she responded that no one
cared about her. I told her that could not be true. That’s when she told me her story. She was the
only daughter of a single mother and she had two brothers. Her mom wanted all boys but when
she was born, her mom’s focus was on her boys. She said she felt like her mom didn’t want her
around so she started coming to the center because she didn’t know where else to go. As she
poured her heart out to me, I had to ask her about her dad. I said, “have you talked to your dad
