Fernando Delgado worked for Delphi Automotive Systems as the public auditor and
accountant, of the corporation in the USA and Mexico. Mr. Delgado worked for this corporation
for 33 years but has a total of 38 years of experience, and is now retired. He specialized in the
finance area for corporate. He managed and advised all the accountants and administrators from
each factory in the USA and Mexico. Mr. Delgado was in charge of revising every finance report
from all locations, make sure they were correct, and add them up to one report. He graduated in
1974, from the Universidad Autonoma de Ciudad Juarez (UACJ), a university in the city of
Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. His educational background consists in two degrees as public
auditor, and accountant, plus a master degree in international commerce.
Fernando Delgado is my second uncle, my grandpas younger brother. I choose to
interview my uncle because he is one person that I truly admire and that I am proud of him for all
that he has accomplished. He inspires me to continue with my business administration career. My
uncle had three older brothers. Their parents did not have money to send any of them to college.
Fernando’s brothers decided to follow their fathers path to become professional Mexican
wrestlers, quitting high school in order to send Fernando to college. Thanks to their sacrifice, my
uncle was able to finish the university with a masters and became successful, then he was able to
help his brothers and his parents.
He still lives in Juarez city in Mexico, right across the border from where I live. I
interviewed him though a phone call where it was in the Spanish language, then I translated
everything to English. The questions I used in this interview are the following:

Which skills are important for someone to have who is interested in a career in your

Are teamwork and collaborative skills still important in today’s business workplace?
What are some lessons you learned from your undergraduate and/or graduate degree
which have served you well in your career?
I have learned how important it is to be able to apply problem-solving skills to difficult
issues in the workplace, so can you describe a time when all of the standard approaches
were not enough to solve a complex issue? How did you solve it, and what lesson (s) did
you learn?
Students are sometimes under extreme pressure to juggle home, family, career, and their
college education. What advice can you share with students to help keep their minds
focused on graduation and even after graduation so that they don’t give up on their
education and career goals?
