The goal for this proposal was to get a better understanding of what motivates individuals to volunteer and to increase knowledge based on volunteer motivation, as the topic of volunteer motivation is under-researched. The research problem is a lack of sufficient understanding about the phenomena in question, which is what inspires individuals to perform volunteer work.

This portfolio had me thinking about starting my own project. I was lucky enough to be able to volunteer at the Eden Recovery Centre Addiction Rehab Facility in Midrand 2 years ago. The project I would be proud of starting has to be connected with troubled teens in my community. While I was volunteering at the Centre, I noticed that more than 90% of the patients were in their late 40’s and older.

For this Assignment I conducted research on child abandonment. I will be discussing five effects that abandonment can have on a child and at the end I list a few actions a country can take to reduce the rate of child abandonment.
