What is Psychology?

Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind and human behavior.

The Beginning of Psychology

Psychology first derived from philosophies about the mind and soul, and the Greek word 'Psi' depicts exactly that. As the field evolved, the philosophies merged with natural sciences such as biology to better understand the human brain in regard to the way in which humans think and behave. Over time, this emergence became known as Psychology as renowned thinkers from all over the world developed on ideas to create psychological theories to explain different human phenomena.

Branches of Psychology

Psychology diverges into a multitude of sub-categories, each of which studies distinct disciplines of human behavior and thought, whilst also being interconnected. For instance, cognitive psychology studies the ways in which human cognition develops over the progression of an individual's lifetime, and social psychology studies the way in which human interact and behave in social contexts; and together social cognition studies the many ways in which people make decisions, think, behave and interact whilst experiencing socialization.
