Self-Report Questionnaires
What Is The Self-Report Method?
Sometimes the most straightforward way of asking someone why they
behaved the way they did is to ask them.
The self-report method can be done using questionnaires or interviews.
The difference being, questionnaires are written questions, and interviews
are conducted face to face.
Self-Report - When participants are asked to explain their own feelings,
opinions, behaviours, and / or experiences.
Questionnaires
A pre-set list of questions to which the participant responds.
They assess thoughts and / or feelings.
A questionnaire may be used as part of an experiment to assess the DV -
ie. Loftus & Palmer used a questionnaire to assess the speed estimates of
participants.
Open Questions
These types of questions allow people to elaborate on their answers and
give more detail - no fixed range of responses.
They generate qualitative data, rich in detail but they are difficult to
analyse.
