Conceptualisation and analysis of co and extra-curricular activities (30 Marks)
1. Write your own definition of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and give an example of
each. (2)
Co-curricular activities are activities that support and are linked to the academic curriculum and help
learners understand what they learn in class better. An example is a science club that supports science
lessons. Extra-curricular activities are activities that take place outside normal class time and are not
directly linked to school subjects but help learners develop skills and talents. An example is a school
soccer team.
2. What is the role of extra-curricular and co-curricular activities? Discuss 4 roles. (4)
Extra-curricular and co-curricular activities help learners develop social skills such as teamwork,
communication, and cooperation. They also promote physical, emotional, and mental well-being by
keeping learners active and engaged. These activities help learners discover and develop their talents
and interests beyond academics. In addition, they build discipline, confidence, and leadership skills,
which prepare learners for future responsibilities.
3. List and explain 2 extra-curricular and 2 co-curricular activities you intend to introduce in your
school during and after completing this module. (4)
Two extra-curricular activities I would introduce are a sports club (such as netball or soccer) to promote
physical fitness and teamwork, and a drama club to build confidence, creativity, and communication
