Reflection on micro-organizational behaviour

Micro-organizational behaviour is a course-branch in the broad category of

management. The course has turned out to be a revamped experience in terms of performance

and learning point of view. The practical part of the course helped me to get a chance to

implement the skills and knowledge acquired in class through self-studies and lectures. The

course taught me a lot concerning individual and team functioning. Through this course, I

have been able to learn new theories related to system, culture and people organization. I was

inspired to apply my acquired skills and knowledge to become an effective manager. I was

equipped with managerial assumption skills, team leader skills, global readiness skills, and

time management profile skills. It is through the study of the course content that my

understanding of people’s behaviour became vivid. As a field of study, micro-organizational

behaviour focusses on human behaviour within an organization as influenced by

organizational structures. The micro-organizational behaviour covers the individual and

group dynamics within an organization. Within the study of the course, I became familiarized

with various facets of organizational behaviour including leadership, job satisfaction,

decision-making, team building, and motivation. Various topics complete the micro-

organizational course. This study will focus on three of these topics. I will reflect on those

topics while exploring one or two theories associated with each of the topics. The reflection

will cover my strengths and blind spots while evaluating and examining my understanding,

relation and working with other people. Further, I will discuss the take away with relation to

my approach to conflict resolution, multi-cultural awareness, and my leadership style.

The teachings and learnings in the topic titled foundations of employees’ motivations still

ring in my mind up to date. I came to understand employee motivation as a basic area of

every company’s personnel policy. The topic helped me to differentiate and understand the

meaning of employee engagement and employee motivation. I can now relate motivation to
