ANSWERS|ALREADY GRADED A
What could you bring to the role? Correct Ans- As a HCA, I go by the 6
Cs - care, compassion, competence, communication
courage and commitment every day.
1. Good communication and observation
2. Commitment - to making myself better. Interest in the physical,
psychological and process of pregnancy and birth
I am driven and diligent but also resilient when I fail.

What makes you stand out from other candidates Correct Ans- The IB
has given me outstanding academic skills, studying 6 subjects as well as
TOK has made me a well-rounded academic who is able to critically
evaluate my own and others work and have appreciation for having a
holistic outlook.

Tell me about yourself Correct Ans- I have always been a caring
individual. My mum works as a mental health HCA and my dad is a
porter in a hospital. I became interested in pregnancy when my favourite
teacher in work lost his baby Archie at 14 weeks premature. I didn't
know how to talk about such an emotional topic with a teacher I barely
knew. But what I did know is that I cared, I did fundraising etc. At
college I became a mentor for academic study to support GCSE retakes,
run autism youth club, went to Morocco - women hair... TOK IVF essay.
Now HCA on Eliot ward, proactive in training, Italian Nurse boyfriend,
2 BABIES, Work experience.

, How would you deal with the stress of care role? Correct Ans- At the
beginning of being HCA, i found it hard. Death was something I'd never
seen first hand. I wanted to leave. I was supernumerary for 2 months.
Now, I mentor others, train others. Talking helped alot, working as a
team helped.

Why do you want to be a midwife? Correct Ans- I think i would enjoy
women centred care, supporting women in their most vulnerable and
treasurable moments, help support showing women how powerful the
female body is , helping someone have the best birthing experience
possible.

Current issues in midwifery Correct Ans- Women giving birth later -
birthing complications increased, average from 27.2 yrs in 1982 to 30.2
in 2014. it was revealed in 2016 that for the first time ever, the number
of women who gave birth over the age of 40 was higher in the UK than
the number of women who gave birth under the age of 20. Mental health
are becoming increasingly more common especially post natal -
affecting around 20% of women in the first year after childbirth -
opinion more funding and research and groups e.g baby massage need to
be pushed to help new mums suffering with mental health problems and
gaining social connections

What is the role of a midwife? Correct Ans- Midwives are specialists in
supporting child bearing women and their babies throughout, pre-
pregnacy, pregnancy, birth and post partum periods. A very small part is
catching babies. Core characteristics include optimising normal biology,
physiological, social and cultural processes of reproduction and early
life, timely prevention and management of complications, consultation
with and referral to other services, respecting women's individual
