, Assignment A – Teacher Language
A) Presenting 3 of your selected vocabulary items

T: Okay everyone, before we read the text, there is some new vocabulary we should make note of.
I’m going to explain three of these now so listen carefully and try to see if you know which word
I’m talking about.

1st Item

I don’t want to follow the rules of the school and therefore I am…?
S: rebellious?
T: Yes. I would be a rebellious girl. If you go against the rules, you are being rebellious. Rebellious
is an adjective, often coming after the preposition “a”. For example: She is a rebellious girl to go
against the rules. The verb is “to rebel” against the rules.
T: Everyone repeat the adjective: rebellious.
S: Rebellious
T: How many syllables is the word?
S: Three syllables.
T: Yes. Re-bel-lious. Where is the stress?
S: On the second syllable.
T: Yes. Great work. “Bel” is the part of the word that is stressed. Let’s say it all together again.
S: Rebellious.
T: Does this girl obey orders?
S: No.

word in your vocab journals.

2nd item

If I am showing strong dislike or seem unfriendly, I am..?
S: Hostile?
T: Yes. I would have a hostile attitude. If you are acting in an aggressive manner, you are being
hostile. Hostile is an adjective, often coming after the preposition “a”. For example: Their actions
were hostile. The noun is “hostility.” For example: She could feel their hostility.
T: Everyone repeat the adjective: hostile
S: Hostile
T: How many syllables is the word?
S: Two.
T: Yes. Hos-tile. Where is the stress?

S: Hostile.
T: Would hostile people, likely to act positively or negatively towards you?
S: Negatively.
