This document is a case analysis that applies global trends regarding the economic factors contributing to domestic violence to the specific situation of a client named Alyssa. The paper covers the client's demographics, the presenting problem, the assessment process, and lessons learned by the student social worker. Client and Problem Profile (Alyssa) Client Demographics: Alyssa is a 34-year-old white woman from New York. She is spiritual but not religious, speaks English and Spanish, and is currently unemployed, having quit her job as a kindergarten teacher at her husband's demand. She has three children (two from her first marriage) and minimal contact with family and friends. Presenting Problem: Her husband, Matt (a police officer), has been physically, emotionally, verbally, and sexually abusive for approximately two years. Safety Risk: Matt has connections with authorities and managed to dissolve two police reports of abuse. He is now threatening to murder her and her children if she reports the case. Root Cause of Entrapment: Alyssa fears leaving because she is unemployed and does not have the means to support herself and her children.

Domestic Abuse- Global Trends

Client's Demographic

The client, Alyssa, is a 34-year-old white woman born and raised in New York. She

married her high school boyfriend at 18, had two children, and passed on when they were 28.

She remarried 2 years ago to a man she met at a church meeting, who she got engaged to and

married within six months despite advice against it from family and friends, and they have one

child. She is spiritual but not religious. She speaks English as her first language and Spanish,

which she learned to communicate with her husband's family. She lives alone with her children

and husband. Her family and friends communicate with her occasionally- maybe once a year.

She is currently unemployed but used to work as a kindergarten teacher.

Presenting the Problem and Student's Role

Since their marriage started, her husband Matt has been physically, emotionally, verbally,

and sexually abusive in some instances. Alyssa was a kindergarten teacher, earning barely

enough to support herself and the children. However, her husband demanded that she quit her

job, and now she fears leaving because she does not have the means to support herself. She

reported the abuse to the police, but her husband, who is a police officer, managed to dissolve the

case both times because he had connections with the authorities in his area. Alyssa sought social

work services because her family abandoned her when she decided to marry Matt two years ago,

and now Matt is threatening to murder her and her children if she reported the case to anyone.

The abuse started approximately 2 years ago and has escalated in the past few months, with

Alyssa suspecting that he is already seeing another woman. The student's role was to conduct a

comprehensive assessment, help the client set goals, and identify resources to help the client.
