learners in class. Refer to the levels of language development. (6)
1.2 Outline any two activities that you would do at school to support the language
development of Grade 1 learners.
Write a paragraph (not more than five lines) of a reading text and use it for the

1.3 Read the following scenario and answer the questions that follow:
Mrs Pakathi, a Grade 3 teacher, always starts a writing task with oral
exercises. She then models how to write a story on a chalkboard or a chart.
The learners thereafter do their writing. Once learners are done writing, they
read what they have written to their partners. Mrs Pakathi observes learners
while doing the task. She gives support to learners to improve their work. She
asks few learners to share their stories with the whole class.
1.3.1 Identify a strategy of writing that Mrs Pakathi uses in the above scenario. (2)
1.3.2 Evaluate how this strategy can assist learners to develop writing skills. (5)
1.3.3 Teaching writing can be done in a series of lessons. Evaluate the importance
of teaching writing in a series of lessons with reference to a writing cycle. (8)
