ENG2611 Assignment 1 (DETAILED ANSWERS) 2026 - DISTINCTION GUARANTEED - DISTINCTION GUARANTEED - DISTINCTION GUARANTEED Answers, guidelines, workings and references ,...There are many ideas related to reading. Reading helps us to understand our immediate surroundings (street signs and shop names); to understand the world around us (newspapers and textbooks); to be involved with other people (social media and visual literacy) and to gain academic knowledge by critically reading, analysing and interpreting academic texts. (TUT501, 2020: 8) According to Leland et al (2013), another aspect to keep in mind when reading is that we need to understand that texts often embrace cultural ideas and, therefore, we should be sensitive to the ideas associated with specific cultures when reading. We must learn to understand that a text presents certain characters favourably and others unfavourably and understanding how characters work with or against each other helps us to recognise the themes of a text. (TUT501, 2020: 13) ENG2611/ Assignment 1 3 QUESTION Reading is an essential skill that helps individuals understand their environment, engage with others, and succeed academically. The Importance of Reading in Everyday Life and Academic Contexts

Reading is an important part of everyday life as well as academic learning because it
helps people make sense of the world, communicate with others, and develop
deeper thinking skills. Reading is not only about recognising words on a page, but
also about understanding ideas, questioning meaning, and making connections
between texts and real-life experiences. In both social and educational settings,
reading allows individuals to gain knowledge, interpret information, and become
active participants in society (Bailey, 2015: 18).
