1.1: The Teacher as a Professional
A. Definition of a Professional Educator (2 marks)
A professional educator is a qualified and competent teacher who demonstrates
commitment, integrity, accountability, and ethical behaviour in carrying out teaching
duties. Such an educator upholds professional standards set by the South African
Council for Educators (SACE), respects learners’ rights, and continuously develops their
skills to enhance teaching and learning (SACE, 2018).
B. Instances Where Mr Dlamini Demonstrated Professionalism (6 marks)
1. Commitment to Learner Support
Mr Dlamini voluntarily offered after-school tutoring sessions to assist struggling
learners. This demonstrates dedication to learners’ academic success and aligns
with the teacher’s duty to support diverse learning needs (DBE, 2016).
2. Development of Learning Materials
He created interactive learning materials that were later adopted by the
department. This shows innovation and commitment to improving learner
