, QUESTION 1: PROFESSIONAL TEACHER
1.1.
A. Definition of a Professional Educator
A professional educator is a qualified, ethical, and committed teacher who upholds
professional standards in behaviour, knowledge, and teaching practice. Such a
teacher respects learners’ rights, applies sound pedagogical skills, and
demonstrates accountability in fulfilling teaching responsibilities (BPT1501 Study
Guide, 2023). Professional educators continuously develop their skills and maintain
respectful, inclusive, and ethical relationships with colleagues, learners, and parents
(Gravett, De Beer & Du Plessis, 2019).
B. Instances Where Mr Dlamini Demonstrated Professionalism
1. Commitment to Learner Support:
Mr Dlamini offered after-school tutoring sessions for struggling learners. This shows
dedication to learner success and aligns with professional teaching values of
providing support beyond class time. By giving extra help, he displayed care and
responsibility towards improving learners’ performance (BPT1501 Study Guide,
2023).
2. Creation of Learning Materials:
He developed interactive learning materials that were later used by the department.
This act shows innovation, professional growth, and willingness to share resources
to improve teaching quality for all learners. It also reflects reflective practice and
contribution to collective learning (Gravett et al., 2019).
3. Encouragement of Parental Involvement:
By organising meetings for parents to discuss learner progress, Mr Dlamini promoted
collaboration between home and school. This reflects professionalism as it fosters a
shared responsibility in education and strengthens the relationship between teachers
and the community (BPT1501 Study Guide, 2023).
