Lesson Aims (on different cognitive levels)
At the end of the lesson, learners should be able to:
1. Identify and name common fractions up to twelfths.
2. Visually compare and order fractions using digital tools.
3. Add and subtract fractions with the same denominator.
4. Solve real-life problems involving fractions (grouping and sharing).
5. Recognise and explain equivalent fractions using digital simulations
Teaching Strategy
Collaborative and visual learning strategy. Learners will work in small groups using ICT tools
to visually explore and manipulate fractions. This promotes shared learning, peer teaching
and enhanced conceptual understanding. Using visual digital simulations supports learners
who struggle with abstract number concepts.

Teaching Method
Demonstration and guided discovery. The teacher first demonstrates how to use the digital
tools and solve problems, then guides learners as they explore similar problems on their
devices. This method promotes active engagement, deeper understanding and the ability to
apply knowledge independently.
Lesson Phases
Phase Details
Introduction Begin with a recap discussion: Ask learners how they share pizza or
cake. Show a short YouTube video ―Understanding Fractions.‖ Use
Google Jamboard to let learners draw and label their own fraction
examples. Clearly state: ―Today, we will learn how to compare and
solve problems with fractions.‖
Development of Use the Toy Theater fraction simulator to demonstrate how to compare,
Content order and add/subtract fractions. Learners work in pairs on tablets to
solve prepared digital worksheets via Google Slides. Include a short
problem-solving session where learners calculate how to share 12
apples equally among 3 friends.
Consolidation Learners use Google Jamboard to explain one thing they learned.
Review key points (equivalent fractions, ordering, operations). Let
learners explain to peers using their own words and visuals.
Assessment 1. What is one-half of 8? (4)
(during lesson)
2. Which is greater: 3/4 or 2/3? (3/4)
3. What is 2/5 + 1/5? (3/5)
4. How do you know two fractions are equivalent? (If they cover
the same portion)
5. Solve: You have 6 apples and 3 people. How many does each
get? (2 apples each / 6 ÷ 3 = 2)
