1. Based on the National Small Business Act, classify the size of enterprise that
GI represents by referring to its number of employees. (1)
According to the National Small Business Act of South Africa, enterprises in the
finance and business services sector are classified by criteria such as the number of
full-time employees. Since GI employs seven full-time staff members, it falls into the
category of a “very small enterprise,” which applies to businesses in this sector with
between 6 and 20 employees.
2. Identify and discuss the key challenges that Sakhe experienced both during the
initial stages of establishing his business and in the ongoing operation of his
enterprise. (7)
Sakhe encountered multiple challenges, which can be divided into initial start-up
difficulties and ongoing operational constraints:
• Initial challenges:
➢ Limited business experience: Having qualified as an attorney only two
years earlier, Sakhe felt underprepared, believing that at least five years of
experience was necessary before establishing his own practice. This led
to self-doubt about competing with more seasoned attorneys.
