This resource contains a model UCAS personal statement for a Adult Nursing degree which was successful in getting the applicant on their chosen course. Its sound content and structure mean that this could easily be used as a template to create a personal statement for a degree course in any subject. It would be useful for any prospective university student (i.e. sixth former or mature students) and would be excellent in supporting any individual with their UCAS application as it gives them an example of what a model personal statement looks like, structured by sections and the key terminology used in applying for university. It is written in a fluent, confident manner. It covers the applicant’s background in health and social care, including NVQ Levels 2 & 3, an Access to Higher Education course, and GCSE achievements. The statement highlights work experience as a clinical support worker, with responsibilities such as administering medication, training new staff, and supporting patients in Accident & Emergency and mental health care settings. It also includes reflections on personal challenges, motivation to pursue a nursing career, and long-term ambitions within the NHS.

Adult Nursing Model Personal Statement

Introduction
There have been many periods throughout my career where I have worked as a
clinical support worker in a hospital. Working so closely with other health
professionals ignited my ambition to become a qualified mental health nurse one
day. I feel there are a handful of truly inspirational professions and nursing ranks
highly among them. Along with doctors and other medical professionals, nurses
provide an invaluable service to society and to be part of that group has been an
ambition I have had for years.
Other Subjects
I was pleased to accomplish my NVQ Levels 2 & 3 in Health and Social Care. This
was complemented by an Access to Higher Education course and GSCEs which I
passed with good grades, all C and above. Much of my career has been spent
conditioning myself to become a nurse who excels in practical and theoretical
aspects of health. I persevered with my education despite the deeply distressing
personal matter I recently faced when my mother fell ill during my second year
of nursing training.
Work Experience
In my current role as a clinical support worker, I provide holistic care to our
service users and meet their psychological, physical and social needs. I have been
working in clinical environments for a long time and have progressed well. My
dedication at work resulted in being entrusted with various responsibilities such
as administering medication, assisting in training new staff, key worker
responsibilities, attending service user reviews and performing all physical
observations such as temperature, respiration and pulse. Working in Accident
and Emergency entails performing all manner of clinical support duties. The fast-
paced environment has allowed me to develop a breadth of skills which equip
me well to face any challenges in the hospital environment. I consider myself
blessed to have worked alongside exceptional nurses and ODP’s in a theatre
setting.
Other Interests and Qualifications (In this case the student is explaining their
personal motivation to be a nurse)
The hospital I work for specialises in the care for people with schizophrenia,
personality and compulsive disorders. Therefore, alertness and consistency are
key attributes in the provision of care given to this client group. I have acquired
extensive training in various areas of mental health such as Deprivation of Liberty
(DoLs) and De-escalation techniques. I feel confident in dealing with patients
exhibiting various forms of challenging behaviours and I’m prepared to
