educational development of a diverse client, Crystal, an 18-year-old Korean American female
with dyslexia. The case study examines how cultural, educational, and personal factors, including
family expectations and learning differences, influence Crystal's career aspirations in graphic
design. The paper highlights the strengths and limitations of Krumboltz’s theory in addressing
Crystal's unique challenges, emphasizing the importance of adapting the theory to account for
multicultural identity, disability, and systemic barriers. Additionally, it discusses the role of
counseling professionals in advocating for diverse clients, both through small-scale strategies,
such as ensuring individualized accommodations, and large-scale strategies, such as advocating
for policy change to promote equity in education and career development. Through a
combination of theory and advocacy, counselors can help clients navigate obstacles, embrace
their strengths, and achieve their career and educational goals.
