HES4810 Assignment 3 (COMPLETE ANSWERS) 2025 - DUE 5 September 2025; 100% correct solutions and explanations.Impact Mitigation and Management Assignment 3 (40%) Due date: 5 September 2025 Unique number: 831851 Student name: …………………………………………………………………………………… Student number: ….……………………………………………………………………………….. Contact details: myLife e-mail address: ……………………………………………………….. Cell number: ……………………………………………………………………….. Dear HES4810 Student Follow instructions CLOSELY since your mark depends on the correct sources you use and processes you need to follow as instructed when answering the questions. You MAY use the Word copy of the assignment as an 'answer sheet' to populate your answer below each question. However, please do not include the questions in answer sheets when submitting for grading, as it will increase the plagiarism score. TurnItIn Note that this assignment is linked to Turn-it-in (TII). Any answer that is highly similar to the internet or study material will earn a zero mark. The acceptable similarity index rate is only 35% (including everything, references, cover page and declaration), and submissions with a similarity rate of 35% and above will be screened intensively during marking. Tips: To avoid agitation from delayed TII report generation, submit your assessment early before traffic on the system (which mostly occurs on the last week of the due date). This will also allow you to work on your TII report if needed. Do not fiddle with the assessments once they are uploaded to the system, except when uploading, viewing, and downloading the TII report. Excluding any options on the systems (references or hiding any AI-generated texts) will result in your submission being flagged for academic misconduct (cheating the system), which will be penalized by not marking your assessment and reporting you to the disciplinary committee, where you will only be allowed to proceed/ or not to proceed with your studies, depending on the outcome of your disciplinary case. Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use AI tools ETHICALLY, which means you must never copy and paste texts into your answer sheets. Furthermore, you must never paraphrase AI-generated texts using another AI tool. Always incorporate the human aspects by interrogating the texts generated by these tools, as most are irrelevant. Plagiarism and referencing 1. Make sure to reference your internet sources using the Harvard Referencing style by providing in-text referencing and a bibliography, which MUST be inserted at the end of the assignment (not in between questions). In academic writing, every statement in your answer sheet must have in-text referencing unless it is your own; otherwise, that's plagiarism, and you will be penalized in this module by giving a zero mark. . DECLARATION STATEMENT I,__________________ (FULL NAME AND SURNAME). With student number_________________ (Address)______________________________ and Identify number/passport number:_____________________________ hereby declare that I am aware that the University views academic dishonesty in an examination as a serious offence. I understand that action will be taken against me if I am found guilty of academic dishonesty. Question 1
1.1 Legislation and specific sections governing water quality in
South Africa
South Africa has a robust legal framework aimed at protecting water
resources, maintaining quality, and ensuring access to clean water:
 The Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996
(Section 24 & Section 27):
o Section 24: Provides every person with the right to an
environment that is not harmful to health or well-being
and compels the state to take measures to prevent
pollution.
o Section 27: Guarantees everyone the right to sufficient
water.
 National Water Act 36 of 1998 (NWA):
o Section 19: Obliges landowners or users who cause
pollution to take reasonable measures to prevent and
remedy pollution.
o Section 20: Addresses control of emergency incidents
that may pollute water resources (e.g., spillages).
o Section 21: Lists water uses that require licensing,
including discharge of waste and disposal that may
impact water quality.
 Water Services Act 108 of 1997:
o Section 9: Requires water services authorities to provide
safe, clean drinking water to consumers.
