Question: Write down the first five multiples of 7.
Solution:
𝟕, 𝟏𝟒, 𝟐𝟏, 𝟐𝟖, 𝟑𝟓
1.1.2 Level 2: Routine Procedures (Real-life context) (4)
Question: A packet of apples costs R24. If Thandi buys 3 packets, how much will she
pay?
Solution:
𝑇𝑜𝑡𝑎𝑙 𝑐𝑜𝑠𝑡 = 3 × 𝑅24 = 𝑅72

1.1.3 Level 3: Complex Procedures (Real-life context) (4)
Question: A shop sells shirts for R150 each but gives a 10% discount when buying 3 or
more. How much will a customer pay for 4 shirts?
Solution:
 𝐶𝑜𝑠𝑡 𝑏𝑒𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑒 𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑡 = 4 × 𝑅150 = 𝑅600
 𝐷𝑖𝑠𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑡 = 10%
 𝐹𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑙 𝑝𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑒 = 𝑅600 − 𝑅60 = 𝑅540

1.1.4 Level 4: Problem Solving (Real-life context) (4)
Question: A rectangular garden is 12 m long and 8 m wide. Sipho wants to fence it
using wire costing R25 per metre. How much will the fence cost?
Solution:
 𝑃𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑚𝑒𝑡𝑒𝑟 = 2(𝐿 + 𝑊) = 2(12 + 8) = 40 𝑚
 𝐶𝑜𝑠𝑡 = 40 × 𝑅25 = 𝑅1 000
