Semester 2 2025

STEP 1: PROJECT SCOPE
Yuppiechef has evolved from a pioneering South African e-commerce retailer of
premium kitchen tools into a multichannel brand with physical stores and a reputation
for inventive brand building. The next strategic move is the launch of Yuppiechef
Coffee Cafes inside selected stores. In these cafés, every light meal and beverage will
be prepared and served exclusively with Yuppiechef kitchenware, transforming the retail
space into a live, sensory showroom.
Reason and objectives (the “why”). The project exists to (i) increase qualified foot
traffic to physical stores, (ii) deepen brand engagement through hands-on, experiential
interaction with Yuppiechef products, and (iii) lift revenue through both café sales and
incremental kitchenware purchases driven by demonstration-in-use. It leverages
integrated marketing communication (IMC) to build awareness, stimulate trial, and
convert trial into loyalty.
Participants (the “who”). The project is led by a project manager (overall governance,
timelines, risk, and KPI ownership), in partnership with Yuppiechef’s marketing team
(brand strategy, content, and channel execution) and store management (on-site
integration, service standards). External partners include a creative/content studio, paid
, media specialists, and a curated set of lifestyle/food influencers. Café operational teams
(baristas, floor leads) play a critical supporting role as on-site brand ambassadors.
Execution approach (the “how”). The project will run as a three-month launch
program followed by continuous optimization. An IMC mix—paid social (Instagram/X),
influencer collaborations, segmented email to Yuppiechef’s database, in-store
promotions and sampling, and flagship launch events—will deliver a single, premium
narrative: experience Yuppiechef quality in action. Success will be measured through
pre-defined KPIs (awareness, engagement, store traffic, café and retail sales, and
loyalty sign-ups) tracked weekly and optimized via test-and-learn procedures.
STEP 2: SITUATION ANALYSIS
2.1 SWOT Analysis (applied to the new café division)
Strengths.
Yuppiechef’s brand equity in premium, design-forward kitchenware confers immediate
credibility on the café proposition. The company owns a sizeable opted-in customer
base and established physical locations, lowering the cost of traffic generation and
enabling cross-shopping. The café format uniquely demonstrates product performance
in real use (coffee tools, cookware, serveware), creating persuasive “proof” moments
that traditional retail cannot easily replicate. A culture of creative marketing is already
embedded, easing content creation and PR appeal.
Weaknesses.
Yuppiechef lacks a legacy in foodservice operations, making consistency of taste,
speed, and hospitality a learning curve. Fit-out and training require upfront capital and
management time. Store-within-store layouts may constrain seating, affecting dwell time
and spend per head. Because the café and retail brand are intertwined, any lapse in
café quality risks halo effects on the retail business.
