Introduction

Integrated reporting combines financial, strategic and sustainability information to
explain how an organisation creates value over time. This essay applies core strategic
management concepts from Lessons 1–3 to Clicks Group Limited using evidence from
the Clicks Integrated Annual Report 2023 and its supporting sustainability materials.
The essay begins with theory where relevant and then applies that theory directly to
Clicks, answering each assignment question in a clearly labelled paragraph. All answers
are written as part of a single essay (one introduction, the body containing the separate
question sections, and one conclusion). The reporting period covered is 1 September
2022 to 31 August 2023 (Clicks Group, 2023).

Theory

A vision statement defines an organisation’s desired long-term future: it is aspirational
and guides the direction and culture of the firm. A mission statement describes the
organisation’s current purpose what it does, who it serves, and how it creates value. In
short: the vision describes where the organisation wants to be; the mission describes
what it does now to move toward that future. (Textbook theory on corporate purpose
and strategic orientation.)
