Introduction The Foundation Phase (Grades R–3) plays a pivotal role in shaping a child’s academic, cognitive, social, and emotional development. It is during this phase that learners begin to build the foundational competencies necessary for lifelong learning, including literacy, numeracy, language development, and scientific inquiry. As such, effective lesson planning and implementation in this phase is not only essential but central to the success of inclusive, learner-centred teaching in South African classrooms. This assignment presents a series of ten practical lessons developed for Grade 2 and Grade 3 learners, in alignment with the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) and UNISA’s module requirements. Each lesson was carefully designed to respond to specific learning outcomes and developmental principles in early childhood education.
