BPT1501 Assignment 1 (ANSWERS) Semester 2 2025 - DISTINCTION GUARANTEED. Ensure accuracy and excellence in your submission!!!! The Social Studies teacher, Ms Pamela Troye, had been working at Refilwe School for the past four years. She was a strict and disciplined educator. She was a petite woman with a deep passion for teaching, and learners would fall silent at just one look from her. The aura she carried was enough to maintain discipline. Though she never raised a hand on learners, she had a strong presence, and her voice alone commanded silence. Homework and classwork were always completed, and her learners scored remarkably well. She never tolerated excuses, and yet, despite her stern nature, there were no complaints about her. During break time, other teachers would tease her, playfully linking her to random people, but she took it all in stride with a smile on her face. Though she was a terror in the classroom, the moment she stepped into the staffroom, she transformed into an entirely different person — mischievous, playful, and full of life. One year was particularly significant as it was the first time the school was preparing a batch for the tenth-grade board exams. Everyone was dedicated to their classes, ensuring learners received the best guidance. Ms Pamela Troye, too, had an overwhelming schedule as she was handling the entire Social Studies syllabus for grade 10. The school had been looking for an experienced Social Studies teacher to divide the burden but hadn’t found a suitable candidate, so she took on the responsibility alone. Given the increased workload, she requested a salary hike. Around the same time, a newly established school, offering better salary packages, hired a few teachers from Refilwe School. Ms Pamela Troye also received an offer. Since she was managing the entire Social Studies curriculum alone, and with no high pay raise in sight due to budget constraints, she decided to attend the interview. She was selected and offered a higher salary package. However, to everyone’s surprise rejected the offer. Ms Pamela Troye continued to develop newly appointed teachers at Refilwe School on effective pedagogies in teaching and learning and founded a professional learning community of Social Studies. She also acquired an M.Ed. degree in curriculum studies. One of the newly appointed teachers was told that Ms Troye rejected a higher salary offer from another school. The teacher was curious and wanted to find out from Ms Troye why she did that. Curiously, the teacher asked, “Ms Troye, why did you reject a higher salary offer from another school? It would have helped you and your family.” She sighed before answering, “That’s exactly why I applied. When I got selected, I was thrilled. But then, I realised that if I left, there would be no one to teach Social Studies to these kids. They needed a strict teacher, someone who could guide them. The question of morality versus money stood before me. As much as money is important, the next morning when I stepped into the school, I knew my students needed me. So, I rejected the offer. This… this gives me satisfaction.” Hearing her words, the teacher was deeply moved. In a world where people often chase financial gains, here was someone who chose purpose over money. The teacher felt privileged to be around such a person, someone who reminded me of the true essence of teaching. And that is the story of a teacher who chose her learners over a better paycheck — a teacher whose presence instilled discipline, whose passion shaped young minds, and whose heart remained committed to the values that truly matter. 1. Identify the seven roles of a teacher that Ms Pamela Troye played out in her teaching. (2x7=14) 2. Give an example of each role that Ms Troye played out. (3x7 =21)
