1.1 Topic and Context (5 marks)
Topic: Healthy Eating and Nutrition
Grade Level: Grade 3
Context:
This topic is rooted in the Life Skills CAPS curriculum and focuses on promoting
physical health, helping learners understand the impact of nutrition on their growth and
daily energy. Grade 3 learners are cognitively mature enough to understand the basic
structure and importance of food groups, and how to balance meals. This topic supports
the holistic development of the child and fosters early healthy lifestyle habits.
1.2 Learning Objectives (10 marks)
By the end of the lesson, learners should be able to:
1. Identify five food groups: carbohydrates, proteins, vegetables & fruits, dairy, and
fats.
2. State at least one function of each food group.
3. Categorise ten different foods into their correct groups.
4. Design a healthy plate using pictures, drawings, or real samples.
5. Explain why drinking water is essential every day.
