Minutes on Agenda Item 2.2: Possible Ways to Get Adequate
Water Supply in Soshangana Township
Agenda Item 2.2: Discussion on Water Supply Solutions
The Chairperson, Ms Tancred, opened agenda item 2.2 by
acknowledging the community's ongoing struggle with
inadequate water supply and requested the Deputy Chairperson,
Mr Muzila, to give a summary of previous attempts to address
the issue. Mr Muzila reported that several meetings had been
held with the Municipal Manager, Mr Malatjie, and the Ward
Councillor, Comrade Vusani. Promises had been made to begin
construction of two water reservoirs and a pipeline from Naledi
Dam, with the project meant to commence on 1 November 2024.
However, there has been no visible progress, and the community
continues to suffer.
Community members expressed frustration and proposed
various approaches to resolving the issue. While Mevrou Steyn
suggested an indefinite protest, this was opposed by Mr Deacon,
who argued that protests have proven ineffective in similar
situations. Ms Snyman proposed a community-driven initiative
titled the myWater project, aimed at raising funds for drilling
boreholes and securing an independent water supply. Her
proposal received mixed reactions, with some members, such as
Boyza, expressing concerns about potential misuse of funds.
However, support came from members like Comrade Sfiso and
Mandla, who saw the project as a viable solution.
