solutions and explanations.
QUESTION 1
1.1.1 Briefly discuss what you understand about a language-
rich environment.
A language-rich environment refers to a setting where learners
are consistently exposed to language through various forms such
as speaking, listening, reading, and writing. This environment
promotes communication and literacy development by
incorporating a variety of resources and interactions that
encourage language use. In such an environment, children are
surrounded by meaningful print, visual aids, and oral language
experiences that are contextually relevant and engaging. The
teacher plays a crucial role by using open-ended questions,
storytelling, songs, poems, and interactive discussions to expose
learners to a wide range of vocabulary and language structures.
A language-rich environment encourages learners to express
themselves, ask questions, and actively participate in
conversations, thereby improving both their receptive and
expressive language skills. It also supports learners in acquiring
the foundational skills required for reading and writing by
making language visible and accessible in everyday classroom
routines.
1.1.2 Create two activities that you would do in class to
develop a language-rich classroom.
, Activity 1: Story Bag Activity
The teacher prepares a bag filled with objects related to a
specific story (e.g., a toy animal, a leaf, a small house, etc.).
Learners are invited to take turns pulling out an object and
predicting what the story could be about. After listening to or
reading the story, learners retell it using the objects. This activity
encourages oral storytelling, vocabulary development,
sequencing, and inferencing skills. Learners also engage in
active listening and discussion.
Activity 2: Print Walk Around the Classroom
Learners are taken on a guided "print walk" inside the classroom
where they identify and read aloud words from labels, charts,
posters, and classroom rules displayed on the walls. The teacher
prompts learners to use these words in sentences, discuss their
meanings, and group them into categories (e.g., nouns, verbs).
This activity strengthens word recognition, comprehension, and
the ability to use new vocabulary in context.
1.1.3 Name at least four resources that you can create and
display on the classroom walls using materials that are
available in your environment.
1. Word Wall – Made from cardboard and markers to display
new vocabulary words.
2. Alphabet Chart – Created using cut-out letters from
magazines or newspapers.
3. Classroom Rules Poster – Written on recycled paper with
drawings by learners.
4. Picture Dictionary – Collaged with images from
newspapers and magazines, labeled in the learners’ home
language and English.
