SECTION A: INTRODUCTION
Reading for pleasure is a special time when I can relax and learn from stories. I chose
to read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl (Dahl, 1964) because I love
chocolate and curious tales. I first heard about this book from my Primary school
teacher, who said it is full of wonder and fun. As I read, I was most intrigued by Willy
Wonka’s amazing candy inventions like square sweets that look round and chewing
gum that tastes like a three‑course meal. I also loved the picture of the great chocolate
river flowing through the factory. In one clear sentence, I would say this book has shown
me that using my imagination and being kind to others can make my life and the lives of
people around me happier and more exciting.
