ASSIGNMENT 02
CLOSING DATE: 20JUNE2025

QUESTION 1

1.1Argue the following statement by indicating whether you agree or disagree
with it and provide supporting reasons for each choice. The statement is:
Science and Technology are
inseparable. In your answer, describe the two subjects before agreeing or
disagreeing, with reasons.

Science and technology are two important parts of human progress. Science is the
study of the natural world. Scientists ask questions, do experiments, and make
discoveries about things like the human body, space, and chemicals. They try to
understand how things work and explain why they happen. Science includes
subjects like biology, physics, and chemistry.

Technology, on the other hand, is the use of scientific knowledge to create tools
and machines. It helps people solve problems and make life easier. Examples of
technology include computers, medicine, cars, and smartphones. Technology
changes over time as scientists learn more and improve their ideas.
Some people believe that science and technology are inseparable. They think that
without science, technology cannot exist. Science provides information that helps
people invent new things. For example, the discovery of electricity allowed
scientists to create light bulbs, computers, and electric cars. Science helps doctors
understand diseases so they can make medicines. Scientific research leads to new
technology that helps people live better lives.

Another reason people believe science and technology are connected is that
technology helps scientists do their work. Telescopes, microscopes, and
computers help scientists study the world. Without technology, scientists would
not be able to collect data or test their ideas. Technology makes scientific
research faster and more accurate. Scientists use computers to analyze data,

, make calculations, and create models. This makes science and technology work
together.

However, some people say that science and technology are not the same and can
exist separately. They argue that science is about discovering knowledge, while
technology is about making things. Science can exist without technology because
people can still study nature without using machines. Long ago, scientists made
discoveries by observing the world with their eyes and writing their ideas in
books. Technology is not always based on science. Some inventions, like the first
simple tools used by early humans, were created without scientific knowledge.
In conclusion, science and technology are closely connected, but they are not the
same. Most modern technology depends on science, but science can exist without
technology. It is correct to say that science and technology work together to
improve human life. They help people understand the world and make new
inventions. Science provides knowledge, and technology uses that knowledge to
create useful things.
According to Smith (2022), scientific discoveries lead to new technology that
improves health, communication, and transportation. This shows that science and
technology are linked in many ways. Johnson (2021) also explains that technology
helps scientists test ideas and collect information, making science more advanced.

1.2 What do you consider the best way to teach science to intermediate phase
learners from a constructive point of view? Answer by referring to
(i) the context in which learning takes place, (ii) the role of prior learning,
(iii) the roles of teachers (v) the roles of learners as well as (vi) the importance of
social interaction using a specific NSTech concept as an example.

Science is an important subject because it helps learners understand the world
around them. The best way to teach science to intermediate phase learners is
through a constructivist approach. This means learners build their own
