QUESTION 1 [25] 1.1 Fine motor abilities that involve using the smaller
muscles in the fingers and hand for actions such as holding a pencil or
fastening buttons, only develop after gross motor abilities, such as crawling,
jumping, and running. Develop an activity that will allow children to develop
gross motor skills. List the resources that you will need when developing the
activity, explain how you will set up the activity to allow for the development
of gross motor skills. Take a photo of the activity and paste it on the space
provided.
Gross Motor Development Activity: "Obstacle Course Adventure"
Objective:
To develop children's gross motor skills such as crawling, jumping, balancing, and running
through an engaging and structured obstacle course.
Activity Name: Jungle Adventure Obstacle Course
Resources Needed:
1. Cones or plastic markers (for path direction)
2. Hula hoops (for jumping in and out)
3. Soft mats or blankets (for crawling section)
4. Balance beam (or a wooden plank laid flat)
, 5. Small tunnels (can use cardboard boxes or play tunnels)
6. Beanbags or soft balls (to throw into a bucket)
7. Rope or chalk (to create a zigzag running path)
8. Whistle or bell (to signal start and stop)
9. Stopwatch or timer (optional, for time-based challenges)
10. Safety cones or barriers to mark boundaries
How to Set Up the Activity:
1. Start Area: Mark a starting line with cones.
2. Station 1: Jumping Hoops – Lay hula hoops on the ground and instruct the children to
jump in and out of each hoop with both feet.
3. Station 2: Crawl Tunnel – Set up a tunnel (play tunnel or large boxes taped together).
Children must crawl through to the next station.
4. Station 3: Balance Beam – Place a beam or flat plank on the ground. Children walk
carefully across it to practice balance.
5. Station 4: Zigzag Run – Create a zigzag path using cones or chalk. Children must run
through it without knocking over the cones.
6. Station 5: Target Toss – Place a bucket a short distance away. Children throw beanbags
or balls into it.
7. Finish Line – Mark the end point and cheer as they complete the course.
Developmental Benefits:
Jumping in hoops improves coordination and leg strength.
Crawling develops core muscles and body coordination.
Balancing on the beam enhances stability and spatial awareness.
Zigzag running promotes agility and foot control.
Throwing beanbags develops hand-eye coordination and upper body strength.
Instructions for Use:
Divide children into small groups.
Let each child go through the course one by one.
Give verbal encouragement and ensure safety at each station.
Repeat the course 2–3 times for reinforcement and improved confidence.
